GALIEV OFFICIALY A SEA DOG

Stanislav Galiev is officially a member of the Saint John Sea Dogs hockey club. The Sea Dogs announced earlier this afternoon that Stanislav has been cleared to sign with the Sea Dogs by the International Ice Hockey Federation.

“We’re very pleased that the IIHF has made this decision and we’re excited to be able to officially add Stanislav to our roster,” said Sea Dogs director of hockey operations Mike Kelly.

Galiev was selected by Saint John with the first overall pick in the 2009 CHL Import Draft. The Russian forward arrived at Saint John Regional Airport late Sunday night. The Sea Dogs other European pick, Tomas Jurco of Slovakia, has already joined the club and had a very successful pre-season.

Other Europeans to play for Saint John in the past:
Felix Schutz
Martin Bartos
David Stich
Robert Mayer
Tomas Jurco

Galiev will be the first Russian to play for the team in club history. His transfer was being challenged by the Moscow Dynamow.
