SAINT JOHN – The Sea Dogs’ training camp
roster has been trimmed to 59 players.
According to a tweet from the team this morning, defenseman Alex Ouellet and forward Marc McLaughlin did not report to
training camp today.
Ouellet, a 17-year-old Moncton native
who was an invite to camp, did not report because he wanted to maintain NCAA
eligibility. Ouellet played with the United States Premier Hockey League’s Hampton Road Whalers last season.
McLaughlin, a sixth-round pick of Saint
John in this year’s QMJHL Entry Draft, is a 1999-born Massachusetts native. The
Sea Dogs tweeted that he suffered an injury at the US under-17 camp. McLaughlin
plays at Cushing Academy and has committed to St. Lawrence University, so it’s
hard to say just how serious he is about playing junior hockey.
The first on ice sessions of Sea Dogs training
camp take place tomorrow at Harbour Station. There will be a practice for
returning players at 9 a.m., a rookie game at 10:30 a.m. and another rookie
game at 6 p.m.
