Sea Dogs defenseman Luke Green was not
amongst the players named to Team Canada’s roster for the Ivan Hlinka Memorial
Cup under-18 tournament.
Green has been taking part in Canada’s
under-18 selection camp in Calgary over the past few days. Along with practices
there were three intra-squad games held. Here’s Green’s stat line from each game
(shots and +/- not recorded):
Aug. 2 – Pointless with two PIM in 4-3
Team White win
Aug. 3 – Pointless with two PIM in 3-2
Team White win
Aug. 4 – Pointless with no PIM in 4-3
Team White win
The full roster can be seen here. Only
two players from the QMJHL were named – forward Pierre-Luc Dubois of the Cape
Breton Screaming Eagles and defenseman Samuel Girard of the Shawinigan
Cataractes. Moncton Wildcats head coach Darren Rumble will be an assistant
coach.
Of note, Sean Day, the last player granted exceptional player status into the CHL by Hockey Canada before Joseph Veleno, did not make the team.
Green, the first overall pick in the 2014
QMJHL Entry Draft, recorded six goals and 30 assists in his rookie season with
Saint John. He also registered a goal and three assists with one of the
Canadian teams at last year’s World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
The Halifax native is currently projected
to be a late first round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.
The 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup takes place Aug. 10-15 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia.
