Saint John leads the best-of-seven Quebec Major Junior
Hockey League Championship Series 1-0.
PREVIEW
SAINT JOHN – After playing four-and-a-half periods of
hockey last night, the Saint John Sea Dogs and Rimouski Oceanic battle again
tonight at Harbour Station. Game 2 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League
Championship Series begins at 7pm.
The Sea Dogs took a 1-0 series lead thanks to a Zack
Phillips goal at 10:18 of the second overtime period. It was
the fourth straight Saint John playoff game that required overtime.
Saint John got off to a fantastic start on Friday night
with Nathan Beaulieu and Tomas Jurco both scoring in the first 72 seconds of
the game. But Rimouski would calm things down and tie it at 2-2 in the second
period on two power play goals. There would be no scoring until the second
extra frame.
The Oceanic played a solid road game and could have won
last night’s game if they could have connected on one of their numerous
overtime chances. They are now 7-3 on the road this post-season.
The Sea Dogs just weren’t clicking last night and looked
a little off. Hopefully the Dogs will have a better showing tonight now that
they know what the Oceanic are capable of.
Something the Dogs have struggled with over the past few
games is keeping leads. They blew a 2-0 lead in Friday’s game before eventually
winning in OT and struggled to hold leads in the Chicoutimi series as well.
The Dogs improved to 8-0 at home in the playoffs with
last night’s/this morning’s win. They have outscored opponents 56-18.
With the next three games being played in Rimouski, this
is a big match for both squads. A Saint John win and they only need two-of-three
on the road to wrap things up. An Oceanic victory and they have the momentum
heading home.
