SERIES STATUS
Saint John leads the best-of-seven Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Championship Series 3-0.

PREVIEW
RIMOUSKI, Que. – A victory tonight is all it takes for the Saint John Sea Dogs to win their second consecutive President’s Cup title and earn a berth in the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup tournament.

The Sea Dogs enter Game 4 of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Championship Series tonight up 3-0 over the Rimouski Oceanic. Game time this evening is 8:30pm. If the Oceanic are able to stave off elimination, Game 5 would be on Saturday at Colisee de Rimouski.

Saint John took a 3-0 series lead last night with a 6-4 win over the Oceanic in Rimouski. Danick Gauthier had two goals while Stephen MacAulay, Tomas Jurco, Stanislav Galiev, and Charles Roussel added singles. Mathieu Corbeil picked up his 15th playoff win with a 23-save performance.

Rimouski had goals from Petr Straka, Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Alexandre Mallet and Francis Beauvillier. Jakub Culek and Alex Belzile each added two assists. Jacob Gervais-Chouinard allowed five goals on 20 shots and was pulled in the third period. Carl Hozjan made three stops in relief.

It wasn’t a perfect game by the Sea Dogs but they were good enough to pick up the win. Their penalty killing was solid last night, killing off six of Rimouski’s seven opportunities.

It’s cliché time for the Oceanic. It’s win or go (or stay?) home. Their backs are against the wall. A loss tonight and their impressive playoff run comes to a halt. They have already come close to elimination in these playoffs. They were down 3-2 in their quarterfinal series against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada but managed to comeback and pull off a series win in seven games.

Meanwhile, the Sea Dogs have been good at closing out a series. They swept Cape Breton in the first round and then did the same to Baie-Comeau in the second round. In the third round and up 3-1 in the series, the Dogs won Game 5 to eliminate Chicoutimi.

Saint John will be looking to become the first team since the 2007 Lewiston Maineiacs (RIP) to sweep their Preisdent’s Cup final series. They can also become the first team since the 2003 and 2004 Hull/Gatineau Olympiques to win back-to-back championships.

Can the Sea Dogs make some more history tonight? We’ll find out in a few hours.

Also, last night’s game could be seen for free on the QMJHL’s iPhone/iPad app. We’re pretty certain tonight’s game will be shown as well.

We’ll try to provide more viewing info as game time gets closer.

The Guardian has an article on Sea Dogs defenseman Spencer MacDonald.

“It’s going to be a challenge,” said MacDonald. “Any time you go to Quebec, you know it’s going to be tough.
